The intestinal mucosa, and more specifically the epithelium, plays a central role in intestinal homeostasis as an integrator of immune and luminal signals. Understanding the epithelial mechanisms of adaptation in response to environmental changes linked to diet is of crucial interest, with fundamental and applied implications for human health and nutrition. By combining experimental nutritional manipulations in mouse models and cellular studies, my research aims to understand the dietary repercussions, in particular of an excess of macronutrients (proteins and currently lipids) on the luminal environment (composition of the microbiota, production of bacterial metabolites) and their consequences on intestinal homeostasis, in               particular in terms of immune responses, epithelial renewal and functions (barrier and absorption) linked to energy metabolism. My work focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in epithelial repair following an inflammatory episode (in the context of ulcerative colitis) and on the link between epithelial mitochondrial dysfunction and barrier function in obese patients, in order to reduce complications. In addition, by proposing to study the nutritional and nutraceutical potential of Breton macroalgae, the results of these projects currently under development will ultimately help to propose new treatments to restore intestinal homeostasis in different physiopathological conditions.
